An elderly archivist, Ms. Kline, feeds her quiet knowledge of Erasmus’s inventions; councilmen and their allied families move to bury the past. When Mara repairs a fragment of an unfinished device and reveals the ledger at the Founder’s Day demonstration, she forces a town to choose: preserve the comfortable lie or face the cost of truth.
